CrowAll Surface Contractors Ltd. builds sport surfaces across Ontario, and running and jogging tracks are part of that work. A track lives or dies on what sits under it. The grade, the drainage and the base decide whether a surface stays flat and dry through Ontario freeze-thaw cycles or starts to puddle, crack and heave within a few seasons. That ground work is where our team has spent its career, and it is the part of a track project we care about most.
Working alongside our general contracting partners, CrowAll has helped construct sports parks that include tennis courts and running tracks across GTA municipalities. If you are planning a new track or replacing a tired one, we can walk the site with you and talk through layout, surface and timing.
How a Running Track Project Comes Together
Site assessment: Every project starts with the site itself. We look at the available space, existing slopes, soil, how water moves across the property and how the track will connect to paths, fields or courts around it.
Grading and drainage: A track has to shed water evenly along its whole length. CrowAll uses laser-guided grading to cut and fill the subgrade to the designed slope, and plans drainage before any surface goes down.
Base construction: A compacted granular base gives the surface a stable platform. Most of the long-term problems we see on older tracks trace back to a base that moved or held water.
Surface and line marking: Once the base is set, the chosen surface is installed to the manufacturer’s requirements and the lanes and markings are laid out for the way the track will be used.

Choosing a Track Surface
Running tracks are usually finished with a rubberized synthetic surface over an asphalt or concrete base, while simpler jogging paths are sometimes left as asphalt or stone dust. The right choice depends on who will use the track, how much traffic it will see, whether it is indoors or outdoors, and the budget for installation and upkeep.
We will talk through the options that suit your site rather than push one system. For background reading, see our guides to outdoor versus indoor running tracks and the lifespan of a synthetic running track.
Why Work With CrowAll on a Track
CrowAll is a family-owned and operated Canadian company. Rocco Cornacchia, our project manager and designer, began his journey in the industry in 1977 and was the first construction foreman to use laser-guided grading. That same attention to grade and drainage goes into every surface we build, whether it is a tennis court, a sports court or a running track.
We can also handle the work around the track, including landscape design, drainage and adjacent courts, so the whole site is planned together. Learn more on our company profile or see why clients choose CrowAll.
